Why do we need WiMax?

The commercial success of the product lies in the ability to find the maximum possible number of long-term (loyal) customers. The new WiMax technology, which has been obsessed with computer publications for several months, is taking its first steps in Russia. Who will become the consumer of this service? Will there be a sufficiently large base of regular customers with service providers? The success of this venture in the market, especially in the next two to three years, is hard to believe. Since it is impossible to imagine a mass long-term consumer. Yes, companies report users with a download level of almost 100 gigabytes, but these are testers. Actually, their task was to pump more. There will be an influx of those who decided to try. Connect for a month, play and return to the bundle ADSL EDGE. After all, the point is not in the presence of the “connect” button, but in the need for this connection. It is no secret that the success of the development of cellular communications in our country has happened by chance. Our operators entered the market under very favorable conditions, when revenue from new users grew by leaps and bounds. However, no efforts to promote the product were required. People themselves felt the need for mobile voice. In the case of WiMax or 3G networks, everything is a little different. These networks need a variety of quality content. We need flexible tariffs for any group of potential customers. Need discounts and benefits. And most importantly, we need working conditions with new technology. Internet from the air is, of course, a dream. Only embodied dreams rarely please those who dream. Remember what you expected from public Wi-Fi and what you got as a result. Or how much noise has come up around Google’s Android operating system: “Hurray! The revolution has come true! ” Well, where is the revolution? In fact, who will need WiMax with the Internet both at home and at work? The employer usually blocks social networks, but news channels with game portals seem to be working for now (oddly enough!). Again, a personal laptop looks suspicious at the workplace. A rare security service will leave this unattended, especially in the conditions of mass layoffs and tightened control over data. Suppose a car owner decides to connect a mobile television in order to pass the time on the road (or in traffic jams). As a result, we get a driver who controls the car, speaks on the phone, and even stares at the screen with the latest episode of Doctor House. What is wrong with the accident statistics? Just throwing a laptop on the seat and downloading a movie for evening viewing seems like a waste of battery power. And why can’t you trust the download to your home computer? Well, let the customer use public transport. The convenience of watching a movie or broadcasting in a crowded bus is doubtful. From my personal experience of watching movies on the subway, I note: even very good headphones do not provide victory over the external environment and do not allow you to clearly and clearly hear the replicas of the actors. Therefore, in such conditions, subtitles are in great demand. Do providers know about this? Maybe students? Here you need to enter a separation. Most modern students mostly work. And at work, the authorities are unlikely to approve the viewing of “House 2” or a game in a virtual casino. A non-working student will not work either – where does he get the money from? As a result, there remain computer geeks and executives who have grown up to hiring a personal driver. However, these two categories in Russia are not massive (unfortunately) and are unlikely to recoup costs that have already exceeded half a million US dollars. However, there is one category that wireless Internet would be very helpful for – people who rent apartments without a telephone or leased line. Only now, tenants are not in the best position. The rent may decrease, but the salary overtakes her in this! With all this, the density of the coating is catastrophically important. Holes in the “canvas” will turn all the advantages of technology into dust. What is the use of high speeds on the other side of the street if the signal is caught on my side only on Friday morning when the weather is clear and moderate solar radiation? The second important parameter is indoor signal quality. Of course, the invisible presence of the Internet in the public garden next to the business center is great. But the good weather is more likely an accident than a regularity. And if the signal fades inside the building, then who agrees to pay a monthly fee for the rare opportunity to sit on a bench at lunch time in order to take a look at a new series of your favorite series? The advantages of WiMax can be felt where there is no fast wired Internet (and this is practically our entire country, with the exception of large cities). However, in the Moscow region, for example, providers have already abandoned the development of the network – unprofitable. Mobile operators are advancing on the heels of wireless providers: the new 3G standard is spreading in Russia at the very least. It seems that they agreed with the Moscow special services (there will be 3G in Moscow next year, but only in the subway). Given the huge number of cell phones with standard support, m…
